Screw chiller selection: Don't focus solely on cooling capacity–matching the operating conditions is key.
Aug 24, 2026
Many companies purchase screw chillers assuming that these units simply offer the best price-per-cooling-capacity ratio. However, for chillers delivering the same cooling capacity, there are significant differences in performance between air-cooled, water-cooled, and ultra-low-temperature variants. Relying solely on price when selecting a unit can easily lead to issues such as insufficient cooling capacity, substantially increased energy consumption, or frequent unit alarms, resulting in investment costs that fail to meet production requirements. Screw chillers are not universally suitable for all operating conditions; therefore, the key to proper unit selection lies in ensuring that the equipment hardware, cooling method, and site-specific conditions are well-matched.
