  The fundamental operation of an industrial chiller relies on fluid media circulation to achieve heat transfer. Varying process media, flow rates, and pH levels demand specifically matched chiller units. Improper fluid compatibility easily leads to piping scaling, heat exchanger corrosion, and heat transfer efficiency degradation. Below is an overview of fluid selection logic tailored to different chiller types.

 

Large-scale chillers rely on closed-loop fluid piping networks to achieve centralized heat exchange across manufacturing facilities. The market is primarily dominated by two major categories: screw chillers and air-cooled chillers, which differ significantly in their fluid circulation structures. Screw chillers utilize two distinct fluid loops—a cooling water loop and a chilled water loop—working in tandem with cooling towers for heat dissipation, making them ideal for high-capacity, long-distance fluid transmission. Air-cooled chillers eliminate the external cooling water piping by using built-in fans for convective heat dissipation, relying on only a single process fluid loop. This makes them far better suited for workshops with space constraints or difficult piping layouts.

 

For reactor cooling involving corrosive raw materials, custom-engineered chemical chillers must be selected. Heat exchangers in these units utilize materials such as stainless steel (which requires strict water quality), titanium (for superior corrosion resistance), or copper (most common) to prevent acidic or alkaline fluids from corroding the tube walls. Additionally, fluid filtration devices are incorporated to prevent material impurities from clogging the circulation lines, ensuring long-term, stable fluid heat exchange.

 

Vacuum coating production lines demand extremely high fluid temperature stability. A coating chiller is equipped with a buffer pressure-stabilizing water tank to equalize fluid flow fluctuations, keeping water temperature variations within ±0.1°C to prevent uneven coating thickness caused by unstable fluid flow rates.

 

Standard cooling water can only achieve temperature control above 5°C. For low-temperature synthesis and extraction processes, ultra-low temperature chillers are required, utilizing antifreeze fluids such as ethylene glycol or ethanol as the heat transfer medium. By leveraging cascade compressor units to lower the freezing point of the fluid, these systems achieve stable low-temperature heat exchange at -30°C to -40°C.

 

In practical fluid system matching, screw chillers emphasize piping network water pressure and pipe insulation design; air-cooled chillers focus on controlling process fluid cleanliness; chemical operating conditions require screening corrosion-resistant heat exchanger base materials; coating processes strictly enforce constant fluid flow rates; and deep-cold projects require formulating the appropriate antifreeze fluid concentration.

 

Matching the appropriate chiller based on the process fluid's pH levels, viscosity, target temperature, and circulation flow rate is essential to achieving rated cooling efficiency and minimizing long-term operational energy consumption.
